PEACE & LOVE : Soft Tissue Healing Guide

Have you wondered what the best approach is for treating a soft tissue strain?

I’m Ryan Deller, physiotherapist at Springbank, and I’m excited to share the latest guidelines for optimal recovery: the PEACE & LOVE framework, an evidence-based update that’s replacing traditional methods you might have heard of like RICE.

PEACE: In the first few days, Protect the injured area, Elevate to reduce swelling, Avoid anti-inflammatories like ice and NSAIDs, which can interfere with healing, Compress to limit swelling, and Educate yourself about your recovery. Early inflammation is essential for proper tissue repair, so allowing natural healing is key.

LOVE: Once past the initial phase, Load the area gradually to regain strength, maintain Optimism as positive expectations are shown to improve outcomes, Vascularise with pain-free cardio to enhance circulation, and Exercise to restore mobility and prevent re-injury.

This approach, backed by current research, emphasizes active recovery and natural healing for stronger, long-term results. We are here to help guide you through your recovery, tailoring each phase to your specific needs to ensure your body heals optimally! Still not convinced?
